Congratulations on being a member of Medicus and welcome to our end-of-year
newsletter! The Medicus membership allows you access to a professional
indemnity package which brings a level of certainty regarding the cover you carry
with it. The medico-legal landscape has been changing in New Zealand for some
years and will continue to change. Responsibility and accountability have become
catchphrases in our society. Doing your best is no longer considered adequate.
Despite serious time and resource constraints, the public’s expectations of
healthcare delivery and healthcare professionals continue to climb. Calls for
compensation and awards of damages will more than likely become a feature of
the future landscape.
Now is the time to protect ourselves with an insurance product, not merely with
the cover of a Mutual Society. You are not a member of Medicus because we just
happened to be there when you graduated. You made a choice. Help others do
the same. Keep them safe too.
Finally, Christmas is fast approaching. Let us all look forward to some rest and
peace through the holiday period. Your Medicus board wishes everyone a Merry
